Elopement photography Scotland – a wee guide
Elopement photography Scotland. People travel from all over the world to get married in Scotland. I think a lot of us take it all for granted that we have such amazing locations right on our doorstep. We thought we would write a wee guide to some of the options for your wedding or elopement in Scotland. You can elope in Scotland even if you live here. A huge bonus to that is that it’s a lot cheaper than eloping abroad. There are so many benefits to having a small elopement or wee wedding. The locations are incredible, you will have an amazing day and you can still elope with a few of your nearest and dearest with you. Here are a few of our favourite spots.
Glencoe. We had do begin with our favourite place. Craig and I love Glencoe so much that we renewed our own wedding vows here. You don’t have to go far to see dramatic mountains and scenery and we also know a few secret spots. If you like you can get married at the famous scene from the movie Skyfall. There is also a lovely hotel called the Kingshouse hotel that is perfect to stay in and for a wedding ceremony with the view of Glen Etive on its doorstep.
Aviemore, there are many places that you can get married in Aviemore, Loch Morlich and Loch Garten are very close to each other and you have the contrast of a beautiful beach on the loch and dramatic woods. Loch an Eilein is also a stunning spot with a floating castle and stunning walks along the loch and also in the woods.
Right here in Aberdeenshire we have some gorgeous beaches and historical places. Newburgh beach, Old Slains Castle and The Buchaness lighthouse are a few places we have done elopements and they are all stunning.
Also very close to Aberdeen is another favourite place of ours, Loch Muick. Very close to Aberdeen and again we know a few secret spots that are just a short hike for some amazing views.
There are some lovely spots all around Scotland, with so much choice for your portraits. We shot an elopement and a lovely wee place called Dalvey house in Forres. There was a nearby forest – Culbin forest and and beach – Findhorn beach.
Loch Tay is a fresh water Loch in the highlands with plenty of coastline. If you are looking for a rugged Scottish feel then there are plenty of great spots to get married here.
If you want to travel further and more off the beaten track then you could travel all the way to Lairg. We did this alternative elopement here with the sweetest couple at the stunning Kinloch lodge with the dramatic Ben Loyal as a backdrop.
These are just a few of the places we have had the pleasure of photographing on Mainland Scotland. Don’t forget there are loads of places you could consider. The west coast offers stunning Scottish backdrops and the Isle of Skye has some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. If you would like to chat with us about your elopement then get in touch. We would love to hear about your ideas.
